East Feast Mosaic path.

The second East Feast project was also in a Suffolk Primary school.
I was asked to create a Mosaic Stepping stone path with the children for the schools Wildlife garden.
On the first day every child in the school made a ceramic tile for the mosaic.

The theme was nature and wild life. They made bugs, butterflies, frogs, birds, beetles, squirrels, flowers, snails, lizards and spiders. I then took the tiles back to my studio to fire and glaze them:

The first East Feast project.

The first  East Feast project was felt making with a horticultural theme in a Suffolk primary school.
Children made felt panels inspired by favorite vegetables or flowers.
They made flowers, carrots, onions cut in half, strawberries and pumpkins.
I worked with all the year 5 children to produce 30 felt panels which the school assembled to make a wonderful display.

What a very busy summer it has been!

The summer term was really busy for me.
In addition to my regular teaching and making stained glass to supply outlets, I was contracted by East Feast to do 2 art projects in Primary Schools in Suffolk.

The first East Feast project was felt making with a horticultural theme.

The second project was working with children to create a Mosaic stepping stone path for the schools Wildlife garden.

Finally, in July, I exhibited my work as part of Cambridge Open Studios.

I will be dedicating the next few posts to catching up on these wonderful projects.

Glass landscapes

I have been working on some new abstract stained glass landscapes inspired by the wild west coast of Scotland. I enjoy searching for glass which has a suggestion of water or sky and a  horizon. I then create landscapes and seascapes trying to capture the changing light on the landscape.

By using the opacity of the glass the landscapes can look quite different from day to night.
In fact, when the glass has light reflecting off the surface at night instead of coming through the glass you can see entirely different landscapes on each side of the glass.

Cambridge Open Studios 2013

I've just signed up for Cambridge Open Studios 2013. I will be opening my Studio for the middle 2 weekends in July. July 13th/14th and July 20th/21st. Do please come and visit my studio. I will be demonstrating some glass and felting techniques and will provide light refreshments in my relaxing garden. Visit the Cambridge Open Studios website for more information.

January stock take

I had a very busy Christmas season making and selling glass decorations.
Cambridge Christmas 12 was a huge success and there was a wonderful warm atmosphere.
Thank you to everyone who came.

I also exhibited at the Cambridge Contemporary Craft gallery where my work sold very well.
So I have spent the last few weeks stock taking and restocking as well as designing some new work for 2013.
